A&S Attorneys Settle Strangeways Brewing Dispute

Alexander Ayers and Mark Schmidt recently served as local counsel for Strange Brew, a New England company that sells at-home beer making equipment, in their dispute with the popular Richmond craft brewery Strangeways. At issue in the dispute were trademarks currently held by Strange Brew and trademark applications that were pending for Strangeways. An amicable settlement was reached and both companies are free to continue using their respective names.

On July 23rd, 2013, Ayers & Stolte, P.C. was a Platinum sponsor at the Richmond Hokie Club’s 2013 Football Kickoff Dinner, with Head Coach Frank Beamer, President Dr. Charles Steger, Athletic Director Jim Weaver, and current Hokie football players Antone Exum and Derrick Hopkins in attendance.

This is the third year in a row that Ayers & Stolte has been a Platinum sponsor at the Kickoff Dinner and all other Richmond Hokie Club events throughout the year.

K. Matthew Long, a partner at Ayers & Stolte, P.C., recently negotiated a $950,000 settlement in a tragic tractor trailer accident involving Sharon Tate, a retired navy veteran traveling southbound on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County, VA.

Tate served in the United State Navy for 20 years, retiring in 2008 as a Lt. Commander. While in the Navy she received a Joint Meritorious Service Medal, a National Defense Medal, and Joint Force Achievement Medal. At the time of her death she was 47 years old. She was survived by her husband of 22 years.

A&S successfully reverses $278,737.17 jury verdict.

Ayers & Stolte, P.C. represented a builder that had a six-figure jury verdict entered against it in the Richmond Circuit Court. Upon motion Charles E. Ayers, Jr., the senior partner at A&S, asked the Court to reverse the verdict as being contrary to Virginia law. The motion was successful and the Judge reversed the jury award.
